A BUILDING FULL OF CHARACTER IN THE HEART OF THE OLD TOWN
It would be a real shame not to enjoy the splendor of the old city of Saint-Malo and all its scenery from your hotel room. Our Hôtel Châteaubriand is what you might call an intramural hotel. With its Napoleonic architecture, it boasts eighty comfortable rooms with spectacular sea views! Facing the breathtaking bay of Brittany's most charming town, our hotel offers easy access to the Sillon beach, just a short stroll from the old town.
THE RAMPARTS: A SYMBOL OF BRETON HISTORY
The history of Saint-Malo dates back to Celtic Protohistory - that's how old the city is! With one of the richest historical heritages in France, St-Malo was the ancient maritime center of the Gallic people, who settled in Aleth, now known as the Saint-Servan district. It was in 1144 that the ramparts of the corsair town were erected. Between 1708 and 1742, military engineer Siméon Garangeau ordered their replacement. Spared from American bombardment, the 15th-century Grand'Porte is the very last vestige of Saint-Malo's ramparts as our ancestors knew them.
St-Malo and its magnificent ramparts are full of surprises! What's more, they're listed historic monuments. What could be better than a front-row seat to the fascinating history of the old town?
